Cyprian Consort was formed in 2012, beginning a series of concerts spanning the vast repertoire written for lute consort and voices. The consort is dedicated to historically informed performance of the ample body of repertoire of lute songs for one or more voices.
“Ensemble Porteño," is a classically trained chamber ensemble consisting of Boston's best string players and singers who perform original arrangements of Piazzolla's rarely performed vocal tangos. Many of the songs feature the texts of Horacio Ferrer, an Argentine poet with whom Piazzolla collaborated throughout his career, wrote the poetry of the vocal tangos. Several pieces are drawn from his popular opera "Maria de Buenos Aires," a powerful story of a street singer named "Maria," featuring incredibly dense and sensuous movements for violins, cello and piano.
Porteño is a word in Spanish used to refer to the inhabitant of a port city and to describe anything related to those port cities. The people most commonly referred to as Porteños are the people of Buenos Aires, Argentina, where composer Ástor Piazzolla spent much of his professional life.
